HISTORY OF ROULETTE

Roulette is undoubtedly the most popular casino game on the planet, with thousands of loyal friends looking for their luck in the "magic" wheel. It was named after the French word "roulette", which means "small wheel".

Opinions about who discovered the roulette are divergent. Findings have shown that a kind of roulette was played in ancient China! Specifically, a stone wheel with painted animals was used instead of numbers. At the same time, a form of play existed in ancient Rome. During the campaigns, the generals allowed their soldiers to play gambling. One of them consisted of either chariot wheels, or shields, which rotated, reminiscent of the wheel of fortune.

The prevailing view, of course, and perhaps closer to reality, is that roulette, in its current form, first appeared in France around 1700. Its inventor was the mathematician Blaise Pascal, who created the roulette in the effort of making a continuous motion mechanism. Many even believe that the roulette wheel is a combination of English wheeled toys, such as Poly-Poly, Reiner and Ace of Hearts, the Italian Hoca and Biribi board games, and a French board game already named roulette.

Roulette has experienced a major explosion since 1800, when it became known throughout Europe and became one of the most popular games. The rallying point was in 1843, when brothers François and Louis Blanc from France presented the roulette with a "zero" at the German resort of Hobruk, which was famous for its casino. Their goal was to compete with the rest of the casinos, which had used traditional roulette with zero (00) and double zero (00) until then.

In 1860, the German government banned gambling and the Blan brothers moved to Monte Carlo in order to continue their activities. There ruled the so-called French or European roulette with a zero, while on the opposite bank of the Atlantic the American roulette kept the scepter.

In the early 20th century, Monte Carlo casinos played only European roulette, while in Las Vegas the American roulette. Since 1960, both major casino variants have been offered to all casinos on the planet, and the same has been the case in online casinos in recent years.
